Ōtautahi Music Access Programme

With the support of the Christchurch City Council, SALTBOX Studios and RDU 98.5FM subsidise access for Ōtautahi musicians to create and promote new work.

Our programme is able to subsidise access for 8 artists or bands to produce unreleased pieces of music. 

The Ōtautahi Music Access Programme is currently closed for applications. Applications for Season Four will open in 2026.

Who is facilitating this programme? 

SALTBOX Studios, RDU 98.5FM, and the Christchurch City Council are all facilitators in this programme. 

What happens if I'm accepted? 

Successful applicants will be invited to work with SALTBOX Studios sound engineers and producers to further develop, record and master an original new musical work. This work must be unreleased and not signed to any label or publisher. 

The applicant will receive a full day recording (8 hours) and producing with a SALTBOX Studios engineer and producer, at SALTBOX Studios. We will enable you to record musical parts that are needed and help you mix your song so it is ready for mastering. 

When is this happening? 

The programme will accept 8 successful applicants from January until December 2025. Totaling 8 new pieces of unreleased music from Ōtautahi musicians. 

How can I be part of this? 

You must apply to be part of the programme.

There is a limit on how many places are on offer, but if you are accepted you will be entitled to a full day (8 hours) of studio time at SALTBOX Studios. This includes an engineer and all the recording equipment including microphones, mixing console… etc.

Together, we will help get your music ready to release. 

Season Three is now full. Applications for Season 4 will open in 2026.
